Fresher Coffee with a Coffee Canister

A coffee canister is the best way to keep you coffee fresh. You may have already heard the bad news. Coffee prices are going up because of bad weather in many coffee growing regions. If you love coffee and are not about to give it up, it’s more important than ever to take care and store you coffee the right way. And the right way, includes buying yourself a coffee canister.

Coffee experts will tell you that there are five factors that can affect stored coffee:

  1. Temperature (either too hot to too cold)
  2. Moisture
  3. Air
  4. Light
  5. Strong orders

A coffee canister helps battle all five of those factors.

From the time a coffee bean is grown and then roasted, it’s under attack from the elements. That’s because coffee beans can easily absorb the moisture and smells around them. That’s one of the reason you shouldn’t put coffee beans in a refrigerator. Imagine what your coffee would taste like if it spent a few hours sharing space with a fresh salmon.

Coffee beans also absorb moisture, so keeping the beans stored in an airtight container, like a good coffee canister, is of upmost importance. Your best defense of good flavor is keeping your coffee bean in the right type of storage container, out of damaging light and at room temperature.

A Glass, Ceramic or Plastic Coffee Canister?

You’ll hear mixed reviews from the experts on what type of material makes the best coffee canister. It’s really tasters choice (no pun intended) and what you feel safe with. When choosing plastic coffee container, make sure it’s a plastic free of Bisphenol A (BPA). Look for a number within a triangle on the bottom of the container.  The number should be between 1 to 5 to be safe for food storage.

For the Freshest Coffee

Buy whole beans (once ground the coffee starts to deteriorate)

  • Buy just small quantities of coffee beans at a time
  • Grind your beans right before brewing
  • Do not put your coffee beans in the refrigerator or freezer
  • Store your coffee beans in an air-tight coffee container
  • Keep in a dry, cool place and away from light

And of course, make sure you have a good coffee canister to store you beans.
