Choosing Kitchen Rugs
60If you were to peek into most kitchens, more than likely you’d find one or two kitchen rugs. Yeah, right there in front of the kitchen sink. Maybe in front of the stove, also. And probably under that kitchen table. So when did kitchen rugs become a “must have” in kitchen decor?
It was probably when the first cavewife found that saber tooth tiger rug felt great under her feet. And it picked up water and crumbs that the cavekids and hubby dropped.
Kitchen rugs are primarily functional. They make a bare feet stay warm on a cold winter’s morning. And even with shoes on, they make standing for hours in front of the sink… stove… table comfortable. And most kitchen rugs today are easy to clean, whether with a broom, vacuum or even shaking off the crumbs into the waste basket.
But more than just function, kitchen rugs can add to a kitchen’s style. It might be a splash of color or an extension of a kitchen’s decor, my favorite rooster kitchen rugs.
Type of Kitchen Rugs
Before selecting a color or style of rug for your kitchen, stop and think about the type of rug material that best fits your lifestyle. There are so many choices available.
- Synthetic blends are the most practical and available and come in a variety of designs and hold up to wear and tear.
- Natural materials like cotton braided rugs or rag rugs make great kitchen rugs.
- Another type of natural material that works well in kitchens is bamboo and sisal.
- Vinyl foam mats also offer a terrific variety of styles and sometimes feel great under your feet.
Caring for Kitchen Rugs
The first step to caring for kitchen rugs is choosing one that’s washable or easy to care for. Then make sure to sweep or vacuum your rugs often. Grinding in dirt and crumbs is a sure way to shorten a kitchen rug’s life.
